Internal Competitions

Throughout the year the club organises various multi-round knock out competitions as well as a number of one day events.

Chairman's Shield

This is a one-day competition open to all full members of Amersham Bowls Club regardless of age, gender or playing experience.

It's a singles competition played with three bowls each. Only bowls within 1 metre of the jack will count (Closest counts 4 shots, Second closest counts 2 shots, Third closest counts 1 shot)

The day's format comprises of a "Partial Round Robin" group stage, each player will play three matches of six ends. A win scores two points and a draw one point.

The four highest scoring players will compete in the semi-finals, with the winning two playing for the shield in the final.

Langdale Cup

This is a one-day competition open to all full members of Amersham Bowls Club regardless of age, gender or playing experience.

It's a singles competition played with two bowls each.

Partial round robin (i.e. playing some but not all of the other players involved)
Each player will play four sets of six ends. A win scores two points and a draw one point.

The four highest scoring players will compete in the semi-finals, with the winning two playing for the cup in the final.

NB (New Bowlers) Invitation

This is a one day singles competition open to full members of Amersham Bowls Club who have less than 2 years bowling experience and who completed their coaching sessions on or after 1st April of the previous season, regardless of age or gender.

Any previous winner of this competition, winner of any of the club annual singles knock out competitions (e.g. novice, handicap or championship singles) or their equivalent at a previous club, will be ineligible for entry.

 Match scoring: 2 game points for a win 1 game point for a draw

The persons with the 4 highest scores go through to the semi-finals. In the event of a tie based on points, then shot difference will determine the positions, failing that overall ends won will determine the result

In the semi-final, the person with the highest score will play the qualifying person with the lowest score. The middle two players will play each other

The final will be between the two semi-final winners. 10) In the semifinals and final, if the match is tied an additional end will be played.

Lewis Cup

This competition is open to all full members of Amersham Bowls Club regardless of age, gender or playing experience
Even number of Teams
4 wood Pairs, played as a partial round robin (i.e. playing some but not all of the other teams involved)
Each team will play three (3) games each of 5 ends
Lewis Cup
Playing order: The first player of each team plays 2 woods alternating with their opposing number and then switch ends with the second players. The Second players again alternate with their opponents to bowl all 4 woods. Players again switch ends and the first players play their remaining two woods, again alternatively
2 game points for a win. 1 game point for a draw
The teams with the 4 highest game point scores go through to the semi-finals. In the event of a tie based on points, then shot difference will determine the positions, failing that, overall ends won will determine the result

The highest scoring team will play the lowest scoring team with the remaining two teams playing each other. If semi final rounds are not played only the 2 highest game point scorers will play the final

The final will be played over 5 ends after which if the match is tied a further end will be played

Stan Mills Cup

This competition is open to all full members of Amersham Bowls Club regardless of age, gender or playing experience
Three wood Pairs, played as a partial round robin (ie playing some but not all of the other teams involved)

Each team will play three (3) games each of 5 ends. 3) Toss a coin for the mat

No trial ends, straight in, all shots count

For each end, the player closest to the jack scores shots in the conventional manner

Match scoring: 2 game points for a win. 1 game point for a draw

The teams with the 4 highest game point scores go through to the semi-finals. In the event of a tie based on points, then shot difference will determine the positions, failing that, overall ends won will determine the result.

The highest scoring team will play the lowest scoring team with the remaining two teams playing each other. If semi final rounds are not played only the 2 highest game point scorers will play the final

The final will be played over 5 ends after which if the match is tied a further end will be played.

Wally Theobald Trophy

This is a one-day competition open to all full members of Amersham Bowls Club regardless of age, gender or playing experience.
Conventional Pairs of any gender mix. Pairs will be self-selected but limited to a combined skill rating score
Three wood Pairs, played as a partial round robin (i.e. playing some but not all of the other teams involved), followed by semi-finals and finals played on the day, i.e. before finals week end

Each team will play three (3) games each of 5 ends.

Toss a coin for the mat, no trial ends, straight in, all shots count

For each end, the player closest to the jack scores shots in the conventional manner

Match scoring: 2 game points for a win. 1 game point for a draw

The teams with the 4 highest game point scores go through to the semi-finals. In the event of a tie based on points, then shot difference will determine the positions, failing that, overall ends won will determine the result. The highest scoring team will play the lowest scoring team with the remaining two teams playing each other. If semi final rounds are not played only the 2 highest game point scorers will play the final

The final will be played over 5 ends after which if the match is tied a further end will be played

Mixed Triples

Three wood Triples, played as a knock out competition over consecutive weeks

The competition final will be played before finals week end

Each match will be played over 18 ends with the highest scoring team in each match being declared the winner and will progress to the next round. The losing team is eliminated from the competition

Toss a coin for the mat, No trial ends but only 1 shot will count on the first two ends

In the event of a ‘tied end’, the end will count as a played end but no score will be allocated

In the event of a ‘dead end’, the end will be replayed in the same direction and with the same team casting the jack

In the event of a tied score after 18 ends, further end(s) will be played until a winning team is determined

If required one substitute may be used by each team provided that substitute has not played in any other team in the competition. In the first instance potential substitutes will be taken from those players who originally signed up for the competition but were not allocated a team. Any substitute used must not invalidate the mixed nature of the team

Men's Triples

Three wood Triples, played as partial round robin followed by semi-finals on the day

The competition final will be played over 18 ends, and held during finals week end

With 5 or more teams entering, each team will play four sets of games each of 6 ends. (If only 4 teams are entered each team will play 3 sets of games, each of 8 ends

In the semi-final, the team with the highest score will play the qualifying team with the lowest score. The middle two teams will play each other

The winners will progress to the final

If required for the final, one substitute may be used by each team provided that substitute has not played in the competition. In the first instance potential substitutes will be taken from those players who originally signed up for the competition but were not allocated a team and (if possible) should be of similar playing standard to that of the replaced player.
